ACTIVATION

Here are a few examples of what you can do for focal points or stations. Get creative. Ask others for their thoughts and ideas, and grow this concept with interactive connection with God.

1.To make a focal point station on creation for younger children, I recommend using toys to show or create the sky, some clouds, some mountains, some trees, some animals, and some people. Set them up around the room for little children to see. Tell the children how God created each thing you have represented, and now tell the children that God created them. He chose their little nose, the color of their eyes, all their toes and fingers, the little personality they were to be. Speak over the children the different things God chose about them when He knit them together in their mother’s womb. Speak about the name that their parents gave them just like Adam chose for each animal.

2.To make a focal point station on creation for older children, play some soft music in the background. Have modeling clay or molding dough. The goal is to have the children create something with it. First have them think about what God was thinking about when He made each of us and every living thing. Then give the children a piece of paper and have them write down the things they thought were important to making a person and why. For example, if they thought pizza would be this person’s favorite food, then the person they create should have a nose to smell that pizza. Have them create the nose. If the person, they are thinking about were a great skateboarder, then they should be good at balancing, so maybe the person needs some muscles. Once they finish what they would create in a person, have them try to mold this person with the dough. You could have them ask God what are some things that He chose to create specifically in them. Then have them write down God’s thoughts about them.

3.To make a focal station on love for younger children, get a big piece of fabric. Cut it into the shape of a heart. Make sure this cut cloth is big enough to wrap around the child. Lay the heart on the floor, and have the child sit in the middle of it. Now wrap the cloth around the child, and say, “Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them” (1 John 4:16 NIV).

4.To make a focal station on love for older children, make a paper heart and have two handheld mirrors. The paper heart represents the love of God. Now, write the word, “God,” on one of the handheld mirrors. The other mirror is just a reflection of the first mirror with the “God” on it. Have the children hold the paper heart near their faces or near their hearts. Then have the children look at the mirror with the word, “God,” on it. Place the mirror behind them, showing the reflection of them looking at themselves in the first mirror with “God” on it.
